A BEXHILL councillor is seeking to open conversations on the potential reopening of the historic Devonshire Square entrance at Bexhill Railway Station, with the aim of improving connections between the station and town centre.

The entrance, believed to have last been in use in 1902, could provide a more direct and accessible route for residents, commuters and visitors travelling to and from the station, according to Bexhill Town Councillor Andrew Crotty. He says its reopening has the potential to strengthen links with the town centre, supporting Central Ward businesses and encouraging increased footfall and tourism.

The idea is currently at an early stage, with an initial focus on beginning discussions with relevant stakeholders and the wider community to explore what may be possible.

Cllr Crotty, Central Ward Town Councillor and local resident, is keen to take a collaborative approach, working with residents, businesses and partners to assess the feasibility and potential benefits of the proposal.

He said: “I am keen to start conversations about reopening the Devonshire Square entrance and to explore how this could better connect our railway station with the town centre. There is clear potential to support local businesses, attract more visitors, and improve accessibility for those using the station. I look forward to working with residents and partners to see what may be achievable.”

Further engagement is expected as conversations develop, with community input forming an important part of any future progress.
