EVERSLEY Road in Bexhill remains closed with no confirmed reopening date, as investigations continue into the sinkhole issue affecting the road.

The route was originally shut after a sinkhole appeared, with East Sussex Highways initially aiming to reopen the road by May 1. However, that deadline passed with the road still closed, and highways officials have now confirmed the ongoing delay is due to continued investigations into the underlying cause, including reports of a second sinkhole.

A spokesperson for East Sussex Highways said: “We are aware of reports of a second sinkhole in Eversley Road, Bexhill and the road remains closed to ensure the safety of road users whilst we continue our investigations into the root cause.

“It is important that the underlying issue is identified before permanent repairs are carried out and we need specialist equipment to do this due to a number of utilities under the road.”

The closure continues to cause disruption for residents and motorists, with no indication yet as to when the road will be able to safely reopen.

Bexhill News has contacted East Sussex Highways for any further updates on the repair programme and expected timescales.
