With the holiday season hitting numbers, just 12 rowers travelled to Herne Bay to represent Bexhill Rowing Club last Saturday. Although no wins were recorded each member contributed to many points-scoring positions.

The highest placing came in the men’s novice sculls where Byron Cramp comfortably won his heat. But in the final Byron was drawn in an unfavourable lane right on the outside in choppier conditions, he then had a three-boat race-long tussle to come home in a tough fought second place.

In the men’s junior fours, Noah Landau, Digby Cramp, Alex Toogood, Jonathon Wigmore-Hall and cox Cathrine Richard had a great row in their first race after moving up from novices, coming home a creditable third.

Due to the numbers, Bexhill fielded a men’s senior four containing only one senior rower. Byron Cramp teamed up with juniors Alex Toogood, Jonathon Wigmore-Hall and novice Warren Saxby to record a great fourth-place finish. Noah Landau, coxing at his first regatta, steered straight to help achieve the result.

Another fine result was had in the men’s senior pairs. Senior Byron Cramp teamed up with Junior rower and brother Digby for the first time to also finish a fantastic fourth.

The women’s masters crew of Catherine Richard, Sioux Bradshaw, Ceri Wilkinson, Sarah Reader and cox Noah Landau scored a valuable league point with sixth in a large competitive field.

Noah Landau and Digby Cramp had a tough baptism in the men’s double sculls for their first double together. They managed to come home seventh but outrowed more experienced crews.

Other results came in the men’s junior/senior fours where Jon Molton, Alex Toogood, Warren Saxby, Jonathon Wigmore-Hall and cox Byron Cramp finished eighth. Then in the women’s junior four, Catherine Richard, Sarah Reader, Ceri Wilkinson, Scarlett Jones and cox Noah Landau came home tenth in another large field.

Bexhill will make a third attempt at holding their home regatta on Sunday August 30th starting at 10am in front of the Colonnade.
