‘Council Tax– Your Questions Answered’ Leaflet

Rother District Council have now sent out Bexhill-on-Sea’s Council Tax bills for the financial year 2026-2027. To help residents to understand the rise in charges by Bexhill-on-Sea Town Council, we have produced a leaflet which is in the process of being distributed to all households in the area. If you have not received your leaflet by now, you will do shortly. Please contact us if you think delivery has been missed or if the leaflet is inaccessible to you for any reason.

Local Government Reorganisation means that the Town Council will potentially be inheriting a number of community assets from Rother District Council within the next twelve months. The full list can be found via their website.

This means that in addition to the services we already provide – including public conveniences, allotments, bus shelters and large-scale public events – we expect to begin administering a larger roster of public spaces. This means we will need to increase our budget for the year.

Standing With Ukraine

On Saturday, 28th February the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Memish Huseyin, represented the Town Council at a Vigil ceremony for Ukraine at Bexhill War Memorial. Standing with our Ukrainian community as they marked the 4th anniversary of the full-scale invasion, Cllr Huseyin was joined by Dr Kieran Mullan MP and other representatives from across local, civic and military organisations.

In his ‘Message from the Deputy Mayor’, Cllr Huseyin said ‘It was an honour to stand in solidarity with members of the Ukrainian community, their families, friends and our Bexhill Community. The event was a poignant reminder of the ongoing hardship faced by many and provided an opportunity for our community to show its continued support.’

Window Watch: Ukrainian Support, International Women’s Day and Mothering Sunday

The Bexhill-on-Sea Town Council Hub window has been a busy place again this month. At the end of February, we displayed sunflowers and flags in support of our Ukrainian community on the 4th anniversary of the full-scale invasion (February 24th, with a Vigil Ceremony on February 28th; see previous heading). At the beginning of March (8th), we celebrated International Women’s Day and a week later honoured the mother figures in our lives on Mothering Sunday (15th). Keep an eye out for our interactive Easter window, up now!

Don’t forget, if you’re a local organisation looking to promote an event or exhibition in the town with an informative display, the Hub window is available for booking. Contact us to find out more.

Invitation to our Civic Awards Ceremony and Annual Town Meeting

We look forward to welcoming you to Bexhill-on-Sea Town Council’s Civic Awards ceremony, which is taking place on Saturday, April 18th at 4:30pm at St Peter’s Community Centre in the Old Town. Live music will be provided by The Royal British Legion Band, and the awards will be presented by Cllr Paul Wilson, Mayor of Bexhill-on-Sea.

Here is a reminder of the Civic Awards categories:-

The Freedom Award is given to an outstanding individual who has truly gone above and beyond for Bexhill.

Individual Awards are given to members of the public who have demonstrated outstanding citizenship in the last year.

The Community Organisation of the Year Award is given to a group dedicated to making Bexhill-on-Sea a better place.

The Garden Award is given to the person or household with the best front garden by an amateur gardener.

The Youth Award is given to an outstanding young person in the community.

The ceremony will be followed by our Annual Town Meeting. This statutory meeting is a great chance for residents to hear from Bexhill-on-Sea Town Council representatives, discuss local issues and get the latest and ongoing news about Bexhill. The Civic Awards ceremony and Annual Town Meeting are important points in the Council’s year, and we encourage as many residents as possible to attend for what promises to be a very special evening.

Advance Notice for This Year’s Bexhill Day Event

As well as providing support for numerous other regular events across the year, Bexhill-on-Sea Town Council puts on several large-scale public events of its own. The next of these is the health and well-being event at Bexhill Day, which takes place on East Parade on Saturday, August 15th.

Last year saw the largest turnout of exhibitors yet, from an incredibly diverse range of different organisations, and we’d love to make this year’s event bigger and better still! We know there are still lots of brilliant charitable, supportive and well-being organisations out there who have yet to capitalise on this brilliant opportunity: situated on the seafront, the prominent location allows ample scope to meet and greet with the public. With numerous fellow exhibitors, participants can facilitate connections with other similar-minded groups, ultimately fostering a deeper connection with the community of Bexhill.

More information about Bexhill Day, including details of how to apply for a stall, will be available via our social media and the Town Council Hub in Western Road shortly. In the meantime, be sure to mark the date down in your diary for a day of heritage, fun and community spirit.
