PLANS have been submitted for a new McDonald’s restaurant, Starbucks coffee shop and electric vehicle charging station in Bexhill.
The proposed development would be built on land west of Glovers House at Glovers End, close to the junction of Combe Valley Way and Mount View Street.
Documents submitted to Rother District Council show the McDonald’s would include a drive-thru, seating for 79 customers, an outdoor dining area and children’s play space. It would operate 24 hours a day and provide 39 parking spaces.
The planning statement says the restaurant could create more than 120 full and part-time jobs, with staff expected to be recruited locally.
A separate Starbucks drive-thru would have indoor and outdoor seating and 21 parking spaces. Its proposed opening hours are from 6am until 11pm, and it is expected to create between 20 and 25 jobs.
The development would also include an InstaVolt rapid-charging station with bays for nine electric vehicles.
Both businesses would have separate access arrangements from Glovers End, while new pedestrian routes and crossing points are proposed within the site.
According to a transport assessment submitted by the applicant, around 50 additional journeys could be added to the local road network during the busiest hour. However, the assessment argues that nearby junctions would continue to operate with ‘significant spare capacity’.
The applicant says the development would include new landscaping and the planting of 45 trees. The site is classified as being at low risk of flooding, with underground storage crates proposed to control surface-water runoff.
