Emergency services were called to the scene of a serious collision involving multiple vehicles on the A21 near Robertsbridge last night (April 11).
Police were alerted at around 8.20pm following reports that a car had collided with several other vehicles on the busy route. The incident resulted in a number of people sustaining serious injuries, with ambulance crews treating casualties at the scene.
The A21 was closed in both directions while emergency services dealt with the aftermath of the crash and began investigations into what had happened.
It was understood that the vehicle involved had been subject to a short police pursuit shortly before the collision. As a result, a referral will be made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which is standard procedure in cases where police involvement precedes a serious incident.
Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
