A TEMPORARY ban on bonfires and barbecues across Rother has been lifted after the risk of wildfires reduced.
Rother District Council’s cabinet agreed on Monday (September 14) to end a Public Spaces Protection Order introduced by officers on August 26.
The order banned people from lighting bonfires and barbecues, as well as improperly disposing of cigarette ends and vapes, during a period when the district was considered at high risk of wildfires.
Richard Parker-Harding, the council’s head of environmental health, licensing and community safety, said officers had acted quickly after several fire-related concerns.
He said one incident involved a fire in the dunes at Camber, which had been caused by a disposable barbecue and extinguished by the council’s coastal control team.
Councillors had initially been expected to consider introducing a further order containing similar restrictions.
However, the cabinet was told the district was no longer considered at high risk of wildfire, and members agreed to discharge the temporary order.
