BREAKING: Sinkhole forces road closure in Bexhill

1 Min Read

A SINKHOLE has caused the closure of Eversley Road in Bexhill this morning (Thursday, April 9), with the road shut to traffic while investigations are carried out.

East Sussex Highways has taken the decision to fully close the road, with motorists advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.

Early reports suggest the sinkhole opened up in the road surface yesterday, prompting safety concerns and an immediate response from highways teams after it increased in size today.

It is not yet clear how large the sinkhole is or how long the closure is expected to remain in place.

An East Sussex Highways spokesperson said: “We were called on Wednesday, April 8, to reports of a void in the road which appeared to relate to an old utility trench.  It’s important that the underlying issue is addressed before permanent repairs are carried out and we are contacting utility companies to find a solution. To ensure the safety of road users, we have closed Eversley Road until the area is made safe.”

Updates will be published as soon as more details become available.
