HASTINGS Sinfonia, an orchestra formed by local professional and talented amateur musicians, will be joined by the exceptional youngsters of St. Richard’s Catholic College choir, led by Head of Music, Beccy Byrne, at a concert at Bexhill’s De La Warr Pavilion in May.
Founded by local composer Polo Piatti, Hastings Sinfonia is renowned for its energetic performances and commitment to making classical music accessible to all.
The event will take place on Sunday, 17th May at 3pm.
The conductor for this exciting concert will be Derek Carden, known for his warmth and humorous asides with the audience. Leading the orchestra will be Adrian Charlesworth, who will also perform the violin solo in Schindler’s List.
Enjoy some of the most powerful film music ever written, including highlights from The Sound of Music, arranged for solo piano with full orchestra by Kent composer Simon Proctor; the soloist for this demanding work is Howard Southern.
To conclude the first half of the concert, the orchestra will perform Edelweiss, with St Richard’s Catholic College Choir, and the audience will be warmly invited to sing along.
The first half of the concert also features music from Dances with Wolves, the Humming Chorus from Madame Butterfly and Finale from the ballet Ismanien, Polo Piatti’s latest large-scale composition to date, which will be receiving its first full premiere in Japan, in September 2026.
The second half of the concert will feature music from the films Gladiator, Pirates of the Caribbean, Schindler’s List and Star Wars.
It will also include Chuff by composer Garry Judd, a friend of the orchestra, who sadly passed away recently. Garry wrote Chuff about the miniature railway in Hastings Old Town and kindly dedicated this piece to Hastings Sinfonia.
Tickets start at £15 and under 18’s, who are accompanied by a paying adult, are welcome free of charge.
